Getting to the Bahamas Islands via a charter flight is quick and easy. Here is what you need to know.
When flying to Florida on a commercial airline and connecting to a charter flight to the Bahamas, your commercial flight to Florida will likely fly into either Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (KFLL) or Miami International Airport (KMIA). From there you will taxi/Uber to a more cost-efficient regional airport.
The least expensive way is fly into Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (KFLL) and take a 20-minute taxi/Uber to Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (KFXE) to pick up your charter flight to the Bahamas. Plan to depart on your charter flight 1.5 hrs. after the arrival of your commercial flight – more if you anticipate airline delays. Flights departing Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (KFLL), Miami International Airport (KMIA) and other Florida airports are possible for additional cost.
When planning your commercial flight, plan to depart/arrive during daylight hours, as the Bahamas does not allow charter flights at night (with limited exceptions). The aircraft needs to be back in the hanger by sunset. Charter flights that arrive/depart the Bahamas outside of normal customs hours (9:00 am to 5:00) will incur customs overtime fees – another good reason to plan during daytime hours.
